Veteran Carnatic singer Parasala Ponnammal will be awarded the Chembai Memorial musical award this year. She has been chosen for her contribution to Carnatic music. The award was instituted in the memory of the legendary late Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar by the Guruvaryur Sree Krishna Temple. She will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 50, 001, a citation and a plaque.
