Kerala CM Achuthanandan insults Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s Dad

“If it had not been (Major) Sandeep’s house, not even a dog would have glanced that way” – this was how Kerala chief minister V S Achuthanandan responded on Monday to the family of NSG Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan slain in the Mumbai terror attack during commando operations, igniting a controversy after smarting under the snub from the angry father of the officer when he went to Bangalore to offer his condolences.

The octogenarian CPM leader was turned away from the Bangalore home of Sandeep, a Keralite, on Sunday for what K Unnikrishnan perceived as Kerala government ignoring his son’s supreme sacrifice by not making a condolence call in time.

“He (Sandeep’s father) says that the Kerala chief minister did not come whereas the Karnataka chief minister came in the morning itself…and that Kerala has ignored him. He got all worked up over this,” Achuthanandan said.

The chief minister asked “Is there a rule that the chief ministers of Kerala and Karnataka should be there at the same time? After a pause, the chief minister went on to say “If it had not been Sandeep’s house, not even a dog would have glanced that way.”

“It is Sandeep’s family and that is why we went. A soldier’s father should have had the sense to understand that,” the chief minister said.

But Sandeep’s father said politicians were under “compulsions and duress” to express solidarity with the terror victims in an apparent attempt to get political mileage and “I did not want to respond to them.”

“Sandeep was a person who disliked anything under compulsion and duress. I am his father, he would have inherited the same thing from me,” Unnikrishnan said, a day after the Kerala chief minister virtually threw him out.

“And having seen from the media, they (Kerala ministers) were under compulsion and duress. I did not want to respond to them,” he said, adding “And people who are protecting him and the police people they assured me that they won’t be coming.”

Unnikrishnan went on to say: “When I saw them coming again with even my regret not to come, I responded badly, that was my state of mind. that is why I reacted so.”

The distraught father however claimed he did not abuse the chief minister nor use filthy words.

“Sandeep was not a regional, not even a national, he was a universal figure. He did not want such a recognition,” he said, adding “I felt very bad that it is under compulsion from all quarters that these two ministers came. So I didn’t allow him. In the process the chief minister sneaked him. Somebody brought him inside and then I entered the house. I was in a bad state of mind at that time.”

The opposition parties in Kerala have accused the state government of having shown disrespect to the Kerala-born solider by not sending any minister to his funeral, attended by a large number of pople including the Karnataka chief minister on Saturday.

uma December 2, 2008 at 3:48 am

leave alone the chief minister post. first let achuthanandan sir know what is courtesy, should know how a father would feel after loosing his son, as a senior citizen also mr.achuthanandan should have certain ethics in his behaviour and words. as a human being i strongly condemn this

Neha December 2, 2008 at 3:51 am

An apology has to be made. It goes without saying. These politicians have forgotten who made them. If we can create politicians, we can also destroy politicians.

Susan December 2, 2008 at 5:57 am

Nitesh S December 2, 2008 at 9:59 am

I really can’t understand what the highly literate people of kerala doing…..
How can they elect such a son-of-a-bit** for the post of CM….

Indian December 2, 2008 at 10:32 am

It is a wast he has lost his life for the country. This is the reward he got for dieing for the country. Achudanandan has to pardon to the nation and martyr’s family.

Divya December 2, 2008 at 11:06 am

I respect the Chief Minister of our state and feel that the martyr’s father was equally disrespectful to the CM by calling him a dog in the first place. That was what provoked the CM.But this would have been avoided if the martyr’s father showed the same respect he had shown to karnataka CM to the Kerala CM as well.
The CM should apologize only if the martyr’s father apologize to the CM.We respect our CM and he is not a dog.He is a representative of the State and went to pay last regards on behalf of the entire Kerala population.

Ajith Abraham December 2, 2008 at 1:10 pm

Divya is correct. i don like him politically. But considering hes a state elected CM (unfortunately) , shud be given the deserved respect. Respected Unnikrishnan had to respect the CM. He must hav showed the courage of Our Sandeep. He should hav been controled his anger. I hav seen de video of how Mr Unnikrishnan was reacting when the CM came. I beleive somebody was juz using his distrussed mind for blowing up againt to CM.

mahesh December 2, 2008 at 2:52 pm

Hi all,

This is a sensitive issue.
I do agree with Divya partially. But as far as protocol is concerned a CM should send a minsiter from his cabinet to attend the funeral, which he has not done.Donno what left him n his team aprt from attending the funeral.
Better late than never he woke up and attended the Majors family. But the way he entered and the pampering his security people did also make his father angry. The frustration is inevitable, which the said “wise” and elderly CM should have understood or atleast left the issue without blowing it apart.
Anyway this shows the arrogance and egoist nature of the person ranked high in his state, the CM.
Let us leave this to his senses and not make it another issue.

begid December 2, 2008 at 3:23 pm

the kerala chief minister represents a party known to have harboured anti national sentiments and for passing derogatory statements against the Army during the Sino Indian conflict of 1962, when the Army fought against a Communist invader.

With such proclaimed thoughts, one wonders whether the sonafabi** (the self proclaimed dog who woudnt have gone their any other day, arent dogs progeny of bitches) was merely expressing his harboured thoughts or whether he wanted to alter the school syllabus of kerala to include visionary statements like “dogs of the world unite : you have nothing to lose but your dog chains”, “every dog has his day: even if he be a chief minister” and the like

bose December 2, 2008 at 4:55 pm

I must say father of Unnikrishnan’s Dad must react by saying that if cm “V. S. Achuthanandan” would not have been C.M. “then not even a dog would have known him ”
C.M is a fuck, maderchood, bhen ka loda ,gand ka dalla, chut ka tatta , bhosad ka baap aur pilla.

bose December 2, 2008 at 4:56 pm

this is even less

Rise December 2, 2008 at 5:21 pm

Did anybody posted here knows the meaning of what Kerala cm said? For me what he tells is correct. There were more than 200 NSG commandos participated in the mumbai mission. None of you didnt know even a single name of one of that commandos. If sandeep had not martyred his name would not be respected as today. There was his family even before his death. The Kerala cm by his words he made sandeep more heroic. He meant only that there family got recognition only due to sandeeps death. Using the term dog by a cm is not good. But in Kerala it is a common word.

Just an Indian December 2, 2008 at 5:26 pm

there is something very tricky in his comment.. our “respected” chief minister commented-”if it was not for Major Sandeep unnikrishnan, not even a “dog” would have visited them..” So now since it is Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who sacrifced his life for our country and its citizen, the has dog visited their family.. that dog, infact dogs are none other than our chief minister Mr. A.K. Achuthanandan and Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan.

So none of us have to go furious over this comment as he has refered himself as dog. We should try not waste our time on these utter waste, good for nothing people… and think of ways how to save our nation from the hands of such ruthless, uneducated, uincultured politicians…

Good Soul December 2, 2008 at 5:31 pm

Divya
looks like you are bitch…it sucks to read your message, politicians have no right to talk especially after the failures whether its maharashtra or kerala.

people dont respect ministers, its ministers who coerce people to give them the respect…i think India has started growing up and people are growing up too…

We salute our martyrs who laid their life not run away with z category security.

shanid December 2, 2008 at 5:40 pm

i want to say onething only please listen what kerala CM said…
the national media is reporting wrong statement…

he had told to times now only that
“if it was not major sandeep’s home, no one will go there including dog”
in this statement it is clear that he didnt insult sandeep or sandeep’s father…
and it is clear that he had gone there because it was major sandeep’s home and he had went to show the kerala’s deep feelings…
but the unnikrishnan behavior was not fare… he can show this to politician but not to a chief minister.. he insulted whole kerala…

Achuthanathan was kerala CM not a politician and he is representing a state… what sandeep’s father done he had insulted all keralites…
and Kerala CM not at all insulted major sandeep unnikrishnan

Krishnan December 3, 2008 at 4:38 am

Keralas Deep feeling ? After how many days ? They went there just on the way back from delhi. Not even a single higher official participated. Then what ?

These two ministers went there just because there was pressure from media, that is the only reason.

Remember this is a place where Harthal happened on the day when Saddam is hanged. And hope that who did that.

And i feel pity when i saw the comments against a respected indian soldiers father.

AM PROUD OF YOU MAJOR SANDEEP UNNIKRISHNAN.

LET THE DOGS BE AWAY FROM YOUR FAMILY

Parvathi December 3, 2008 at 4:47 am

People like Divya I guess have voted for the old dog Achuthanandan’s party. I am a Keralite and I am ashamed of people like the illiterate Achuthanandan and the ignoramus called Divya here. A person should be respected for what he is- not for his position. The dog was concerned about the vote bank- he did not go to pay respects on behalf of the people of Kerala.

Parvathi December 3, 2008 at 5:06 am

Some have tried to analyze that what the dog Achuthanandan tried to say was that it was Maj Sandeep’s house-otherwise no one would go there. Even if this analysis was taken literally it actually means that Sandeep’s family does not matter. What right has he to surmise that no one would go there? He insulted the family and home that raised a great son. Do you know that Achuthanandan’s son has been tried for unlawful dealings in the Smartcity project as well as has gained an illegitimate admission to PhD? How then can you expect fatherly feelings from such a criminal’s father? The Honorable and Respected Mr. Unnikrishnan is a great and noble father who raised a great son. How many people would be ready to send their sons to the Army?

Kerala’s CM Achutanandan should be slapped in public, humiliated and stripped off his CM’s seat for even daring such a statement to the family who gave India, a Brave ‘NATIONAL SECURITY GUARD COMMANDO’ who didn’t think twice before turning back to save a person’s life knowing very well that he might be risking his own, in the process. I mean, is the man mentally unstable or something. I am sure Mr. Achutanandan’s intellectual capacity will not be 1/100th of Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s Father who is a Scientist. Are these the Elected Representatives of our Nation? Are these the ones who take oath of the Constitution Of India to protect the interests of a common man. In marathi there is a quote which says – “Arre Janaa Chi Nahi Tar Manaa Chi Tari Laaz Theva Re”. ( Atleast keep some ounce on Dignity for yourself first, leave apart Respecting Others. ). This is the time the Nation – Has To Rise! Its time that we give these people what the deserve.

And Mr. CM – A word of caution to you – ” What Goes Around, Comes Around! “

sankeerthi December 3, 2008 at 9:25 am

guys..

this is really sad..AFTER SACRIFICING HIS LIFE..the hero UNNIKRISHNAN’S family is facing this issue..the last wednesday in MUMBAI-A BLACK wednesday and ONLY BECAUSE OF NSG COMMANDO’s and POLICE FORCE..the situation has come back normally..not even a single DOG(POLITICIAN) has came to rescue any one..they SHOULD NOT EVEN DARE TO SHOOT COMMENTS UPON ANY INDIAN..NOT AT ALL..HATSOFF TO Mr.UNNIKRISHNAN and my deep condolence to his family.

fazil December 3, 2008 at 11:33 am

i stand by what rise and divya hav said
i mean really there were about 200 or more NSG commandoes on duty during those days of hell,i’m sure that no one who has commented her wud hv known their names and what not unless one of them had been martyred
it is the common man’s decency to allow a person who is comig to see the former’s beloved’s corpse to hold some constraint over what ever animosity he may have towards the latter

don December 4, 2008 at 5:42 am

Our should not have used such a rude language to express his anger when Mr. Unnkrishnan’s father was in agony

Pooja December 4, 2008 at 7:21 am

Bastard who had never faced anything is life how can he pass such comments for someone who has sacrifice life for his country people. he more deserves to me CM of Kerala. just drop him out of the state.

Did any one checked what Mr Unnikrishnan have done or said to Mr. CM?

Put it like a conversation… First put in what Mr. Unnikrishnan said and then CM’s remarks.. after doing that I feel like that was actually a reply to his remarks.. and why the hell all want to bea6t on this matter? I don’t know..

seriously.. the first one who must have felt insulted must be the CM.. and did anyone got the reaction of Mr. Unnikrishnan on that matter?

What ever.. things are not fair on both the ends.. and the main thing that wasn’t fair was the act of terrorists… damn….

Major Manas December 4, 2008 at 1:16 pm

Mr.CM should hav had been sent inside TAJ to face those terrorists..
so dat he wd hav known himself what it feels like when the atmosphere is so numb and all u can hear is bullet hitting the walls…and you..

The chief minister of Kerala is the democratically elected representative of all of us Keralites. When he heard about the death of a soldier whose has cultural relations to Kerala (His parents hail from Kerala), the CM talked to them on the phone and told them he was in Delhi at the moment and on the way would like to visit the martyr’s home.

Sandeep and his parents played no part in the democratic process of Kerala (They have votes in Karnatka). They have legal rights and binding as the “Permanent residents of Karnataka”. They earn and spent in Karnataka.

It was sufficient and proper for the CM of Kerala to sent one of his officers for the funeral and make a visit the family along with one of the ministers in his cabinet within a few days of the funeral.

Mr Achutanandan did not visit Sandeep’s home as an old, dark and skinny man of Southern Kerala, He did not visit as a politician, He did not visit as a communist. The person “Achutanandan” is not at all important. The elected chief minister of Kerala, the respresentative of all the Malayalis made a visit, that too after fore telling them about his plans on phone.

Sandeep’s family recieved the CM of Karanataka with the respect a people’s representative deserve. In our case, the representative of Kerala was greated with very abusive words and was insulted. The CM, the Home Minister or the guards of them made no comments or commotion in the family. They left the house after paying homage to the martyr.

Now some media asks Mr Achutanandan “What is your reaction to Sandeep’s father’s words “I dont want to see any “Patty” (dog) from Kerala”, Achuthanandan pointed out “If it was not the house of a great martyr, no “Patty” from Kerala would have troubled that family”

I stand by my elected representative Mr Achutanandan, I can understand Sandeep’s father and his behaviour. I cannot understand why the media and many others are trying to vulgarize the memory of the dead soldier for a small political gain of blaming the CM.
